This is Join 3 from my joining stitch sampler. It came from Jean Wilson’s book, Joinings, Edges, and Trims.
Step-by-step Palestrina Stitch:
This stitch is very simple, the simplest so far. To look good, stitches have to be very consistent. I had to be careful to adjust the thread pattern to center the knot between the panels.
1) Stitch across the gap.
2) Insert needle under stitch from above left. Gently pull the thread intersection into the center between the panels.
3) Coming again from above and left with needle, stitch a half hitch into the central area. Repeat, making two half hitches that form a knot.
