visited lately by wild turkeys
a flock of – count ’em – 35 or 36

this evening’s drama, a buck strolls
through the flock, a tom objects

little tiff ensues, nothing serious
buck can’t be bothered and strolls on

turkeys back to pecking in the lawn
bugs? seeds?

pooping merrily and
dropping occasional feathers

i watch them from inside
not wanting to incite alarm
