thinking about courage lately the courage
to keep going push ahead through
what are the prerequisites for courage
not detachment not idealism not faith
a kind of blind step by
step stubbornness a refusal to give
in to the nagging tendencies of
inadequacy supplemented by the need to
finger something soft (my winter scarf)
and often wishing for a pet
