Montreal
Last Wednesday, Sam and I went to Montreal for a few days of sightseeing and cycling. It was hot, so hot. But we survived and made some good memories. Some of my photos:
The urban architecture is so interesting.
The waterfront along the St. Lawrence River offers plenty of interesting sights. I didn’t know that Montreal was on an island.
We had Italian the first night and very creative vegan sushi the second night. At home we don’t eat out often because we don’t enjoy the food available or the prices. So it’s a treat to be able to take pleasure in a few nice meals.
There is a lot of graffiti in Montreal. And a few nice murals. I really liked this sun/moon outside the sushi restaurant.
More architecture. Sorry this is so dark. I found it so interesting to have a little room built onto the side of a house like that.
We tried a few coffee shops. This was from Cafe Velours. The barista was very friendly and enjoyed talking about Montreal and our bicycling plans.
We visited the Jean Talon market. A mind-blowing amount of fresh fruits and vegetables were for sale. Most of them were grown in Quebec.
We had to climb a spiral staircase covered with a massive vine to get to our apartment. Sam dropped an Airbud (little white earpiece for listening to podcasts, etc.) while on the stairs. Luckily he was able to find it using Find My Phone.
We met a guy in a little parklet. Sam is good at talking to strangers; me, not so much. This guy was a woodworker. He was trying to describe the tables he worked on in a mixture of French and English. They were hard to visualize from his description. The next day at a coffee shop, we saw these:
I believe that cool addition is called a “turret”
noun
1.
a small tower on top of a larger tower or at the corner of a building or wall, typically of a castle.
2.
a mollusk with a long, slender, pointed spiral shell, typically brightly colored and living in tropical seas.
Love that sun/moon facial expression! And so much produce!!! Geez and to think what we pay for blueberries! ugh. The city buildings are interesting. Was it hard to climb that staircase? I too can’t believe he found the earbud! wow. The benches look so smooth to the touch ????
Glad you had a nice get away.
Nancy
A turret sounds right to me! I would never have come up with that word. It was hard to climb the staircase because it was a tight spiral with leaves all over it, and the handrail was wrapped with woody vines.
It sounds like a nice get-away. I’ve never been to Montreal or even seen many pictures of it, so this was a vicarious pleasure for me. Thank you.
You’re welcome, Dana. It is a nice city to visit, very easy to get around, lots of parking. And of course – French-speaking.
