My neighbors
I know a lot of my neighbors. Not all of them, but many more than I knew where I lived in Connecticut. Some of them are “summer people” – don’t live here year round. I need to think about them all more often, as I really treasure them. Yesterday we had a work day at the community garden. Only a few people showed up because it had started raining lightly. Yet a lot of work got done – a whole row of the fenceline freed from invasive grass and secured with cardboard and a layer of wood chips. There was a real sense of teamwork. I enjoyed it. Thanks – Sam, David, Sam, Taylor, Bob, Linda, Susan, and Renata.
I have plant neighbors too. We can love plants as well as people, right? Rain in the forecast today, but I took some photos in a spell between raindrops.
Oh such marvelous photographs ~ life leaps off of the page! I did not know the plant you call “beardtongue plant”, but do recognize the plant as a type of penstemon. It grows and is a native plant here in Washington (coastal NNW), “Penstemon serrulatus” is a native plant. Another photograph enchants me ~ the neighbors Chard, calendula, and borage. just saying their names out loud makes them sound like my neighbors names! What a delightful journal post ~ thanks a bunch!
What a delightful comment! Yes it is a penstemon (digitalis) and native here in Maine I believe. I didn’t think of my chard, calendula, and borage as neighbors, but how exactly right.
Wow. What a great looking garden and sense of teamwork! As someone in CA, seeing the PINK poppy is really something1 Beautiful. I’m so used to our orange poppies 🙂
The pink poppy seed came from the farm of Helen & Scott Nearing (“Living the Good Life,” heroes of both me & Sam). They self-seed all over the place here now.
Ooh…I went looking at “Living the Good Life”…thank you!
It’s a family favorite and they are great role models.
your Plant neighbors feed my soul this morning….you are such a PHOTOGRAPHER…and yes…including the chard community circle…
and you probably have already said this, but Tell again….did you begin your garden(s) from scratch? and how long have you partnered
with it? ….it’s the Garden of my dreams
Thanks for your appreciation! The garden was established by the former owners, we’ve been gardening here since 2016. Part of the reason we bought this place is because of the already established garden. Removal of rocks, soil improvement, and fencing had all been done when we got here.
