Beyond beautiful
It can be hard to absorb how beautiful it can get around here.
The lupines are in bloom. Fields of them. And the ocean (bay), so peaceful.
I worked at the community garden today. We have one day – today – , maybe two – tomorrow – of sunshine, then we go back into a period of clouds and rain. So I had a sunny window of opportunity to plant. I planted sunflowers, calendula, marigolds. And then in the hill mounds, butternut squash, blue hubbard, and pie pumpkin. I don’t have the best of luck with squash in this plot, so we’ll see. I added four buckets of goat manure to the soil, maybe that will help.
I like to plant winter squash here because there’s room for it to run around. I train the vines to go to the right, where I have a second plot with onions in it. They don’t seem to mind terribly if squash vines come through.
The garden looks like piles of dirt and straw now, but in my imagination it looks lush green, productive, and flowery!
Gosh those Lupines are beautiful!
There is even a children’s book about them – Miss Rumphius by Barbara Cooney.
Ah yes, I know it very well 🙂 A wonderful story…a dream really.
Lupine is new to me here, Can’t get enough
They are so beautiful massed in a field. But don’t last long.
