Skiing
Yesterday was a perfect day to do a little cross-country skiing in Acadia. It feels strange to post about yesterday sometimes. I feel like Grace “I’m not good at yesterday.” Today feels quite different, sunny and the wind is knocking snow off the trees. But yesterday was so beautiful, I want to make a record of it.
Just a light snow falling. Not much on the ground, but perfect coverage. Very little wind. I said to Sam “Everything is in its place.” Snow. Dirt. Trees. Gravel. Water. Rocks. The snowy monochromatic world seemed very simple and peaceful.

Sam didn’t want to go at first. We were rusty about the whole enterprise. We put skis and poles in the car, then drove off without our ski boots – how could I forget them? He saw this as a good excuse to get out of it, but I insisted he turn back. He also forgot gloves, so we picked those up. Once he got out there, he was fine, chatting happily about places in his imagination (other planets – like here?) and enjoying the peaceful beauty.

We didn’t ski very far, maybe an hour. Today I feel it, just a little, in my shoulders and groin muscles. I am so glad we went.
Back to today – I finished stitching down side 3 of my repair patch. Moving on to side 4. I’m fiddling a lot with the pinning and focusing on making my stitches regular. My feelings about this quilt are starting to soften. Like Thich Nhat Hanh says “When we illuminate something with our awareness, it changes, it blends and merges with the awareness.” (The Sun My Heart, page 29)

that’s quite a lovely bit of cloth at the bottom of the last image … like a topographic map … and now more noticeable without the distraction of the shredded silk … is that perle cotton you’re using?
can’t say that I envy you the time in the snow … and yet, I do recall how much I once enjoyed it after getting over the “I don’t want to go” impulse
I’m gradually using up all the scraps of that remnant of cloth. I was using a buttonhole thread, but switched to embroidery floss when I realized the thread was mostly polyester. I have a hard time with imagining all the microplastics that polyester will leave around.
Louise Bourgeois is best known for her sculptures, I think, but she was really into fabric also. I’d like to look at some more of her art.
beautiful cross-country skiing country! I have always been interested in Louise Bourgeois! Here is a set of her Fabric works: https://bit.ly/3wr0WTy louise-bourgeois-the-fabric-works.
This looks like some very fascinating information! I’ll be spending some time on this site, thank you LaceLady.
