Weaving eye
The little weaving is off the pipe loom and finished. Lots of fun. I don’t know what’s going on with the unevenness of the borders, especially at the bottom. But I’m pleased to be using up bits and scraps of yarn and making something coherent out of it. I planned out the symmetry, not totally successful, but close enough. I’m really liking the skinny stripes in the center, although this was a mistake. They were supposed to be little vertical stripes (“pick and pick” technique). The term “pick and pick” finally makes sense to me. And now I know how to make skinny horizontal stripes as well.
Something about weaving feels very challenging to my brain. I always scored lower on “spatial relationships” tests, doing much better at more abstract efforts like words and numbers. I find making pictures out of lots of horizontal passes mind-blowing.
I have some yarns picked out for another one.
Walked yesterday. A bit of sunlight lit up a patch of the shore across the water. Theatrical. As I look at these, I’m thinking about horizontalness and symmetry. The photos have horizontal stripes, but design is not symmetrical. Weaving eye is developing.
there’s nothing like doing to cement a concept in one’s mind … looking forward to seeing what your weaving eye conjures
P.S. that bit of found sunlight is beauteous
Yes doing! As a beginner the distance between my vision and my actual is quite high! But that’s ok. I loved seeing that patch of sunlight illuminating the shore.
There is also end on end which gives vertical stripes but that is for warped faced cloth or balanced weaves. weaving can stretch the mind.
Happy new year, let there be light…
A mind-stretching, I agree. And yes to the light.
