Playing with color
I bought some “real” weaving yarn – Array from Gist Yarns. It’s new and made in the USA. I wanted to experience what weaving is like with non-knitting yarn. When I ordered, all they had available was black, flamingo, and burgundy shades so that’s what I got.
I love gradients, so I decided to weave the shades in sequence. I made the black gradient yesterday, then decided to weave a central strip with “Flamingo.” Now I’m starting to repeat the black gradient in reverse.
It’s very absorbing and I like the way it’s turning out although it looks a little lopsided in the photo. I’m already thinking about the next piece. I have a lot of string, thread, yarn or what-have-you that I’d like to intersperse with the “real” weaving yarn.
It’s raining. It’s been raining for about a day and a half. It’s supposed to clear up this afternoon. Many of the fall leaves have been knocked down. I got most of my shrubs and the catalpa tree planted before the rain started, so that’s a good soaking for them. Here’s the catalpa, looking fresh above its sea of mud.
flamingo is a perfect name for that pink!
Yes, the names of their yarns are quite attractive, too. Flamingo is very fun.
weaving!
Love it. Now the piece is off the loom, ready to either weave in ends or warp again. I’d like to have one going constantly!
This looks great! I like the colors together 🙂 To be honest, I’ve never consider if a yarn is a ‘real’ weaving yarn or not. I do consider the thickness though. Maybe I’ll take a ‘real’ weaving class sometime, that’d be fun.
