A Stitchery
Continued from Rags and scraps
I stitched all nine patches down to a eco-printed vintage linen square. The background is interesting, but not interesting enough that I hesitate to cover it up.
Then I started heavily stitching the borders of each patch. I’m using the cotton/silk blend No. 5 thread from Beautiful Silks that I’ve dyed various shades over time.
I was inspired by the borders of the Aymara textiles that Shelley Burian showed in the Woven Cultures course I recently took. It is called “Inka edging.” It gives me a solemn feeling of resonance to be using the same edging ancient peoples used. And it takes care of the patches’ raw edges.
I realize this is going to take forever.
