Wood frogs

I made a voice recording of wood frogs! I went for a long walk west and at two locations heard wood frogs croaking and quacking. This was very exciting as I’ve not heard them before in this area.
The locations for future reference:
- Off Point Road in the marshy pool just after Wooster Road (heading to the Point)
- Off Pound Road on the right just after turning off Point Road
I did some research on wood frogs and found that they freeze solid in the winter! They thaw in early spring just as the snow disappears and the ponds open up.
I’m curious about why I only heard them in these two pools. There are a lot of vernal pools around here, including along our driveway, but not all contain woods frogs. Also – where are the spring peepers? I don’t hear them. We always heard them in Connecticut. Maybe it’s too early.
I’d love to get in to the edges of these ponds and try to photograph some frogs or some egg masses. It would require my knee-high boots and maybe some better weather than today (it’s snowing).
Catherine~ Oh thank you for this!! I hear frogs/toads (?) at the bridge…never see them, but love their calls! I always wish I could record them. ????
Why the ? at the end? Oh well, typo.
Whatever technology this is can’t interpret what you type – maybe it’s an emoji? I don’t know why it’s not smart enough to do that!
My iPhone has an app called voice memo that can record. I don’t use it a lot but it’s very useful for this. I love the frog sounds. In summer there are bullfrogs – and loons! Maybe I’ll try to record some more.
Ah, makes me want an iphone to play with – almost. ha ????
