Still harvesting
It was 24 degrees F. this morning. Cold weather has come. I’m still harvesting. Almost done for the year. One small task at a time.
What’s still in the garden: horseradish, leeks, potatoes, and some greens – not sure how edible they are.
I pulled dried bean pods from the trellis. Then opened them up to reveal a few varieties of beans. These are the runner beans. Painted ladies did better than scarlet. I like to save my own bean seed. It’s a pleasure to run my hands over the drying beans.
Sam’s having his right hand operated on today. Dupuytren’s Contracture. He had his left hand done in April during a snowstorm. I blogged about that day.
I wish I could relieve some feelings about the election with words. But I don’t know the words to make it better. We’re about to study a book about finding joy in my dharma group. Maybe that will help.
A book about finding joy would be welcome right now … please do share the title
And wishing Sam a full and uncomplicated recovery
The book is A Monk’s Guide to Finding Joy. I can’t say if it will be helpful or not, one might need some background in Buddhism. Sam is doing very well so far. He has the followup appointment on Tuesday.
I don’t think there are words to make it better.
but we can look for joy and hold beans
Yes, everything worthwhile seems to become smaller and more simple. Thanks for the joy of your friendship.
Catherine~ I can’t tell you the many things that ran through my head before I got to the part about beans…Ooooh they are beans! haha We have enjoyed watching the show Astrid. In one episode, she is introduced to the idea of having a certain amount of beans in her pocket. Each time something occurs which is difficult for her, she removes a bean and places it in her opposite pocket. Probably not the best explanation, but the beans reminded me.

Best wishes for Sam. May it go well and may he heal with ease.
As far as these days, I keep stumbling around ideas, thoughts, feelings…trying to land somewhere. Hard times.
I’ll check out Astrid. Sam is doing very well, thanks. Me too, stumbling around.
