harvest time
A few mornings ago, I went out and noticed an animal had been enjoying some of my squash from the garden. I don’t know what kind of animal, but it has sharp chisel-like teeth and a preference for Red Kuri and Delicata. So I scurried around harvestng and brought these inside. There are a few more green pumpkins out there. And the community garden has four huge Blue Hubbards and a lot of butternuts. They seem to be safe from animals so far, and the vines and leaves are still capable of absorbing sunlight I think. So I’m leaving them. That’s a lot of squash for us to eat. I think I’ll give some more away. I’ve already given some to friends and family. It’s fun to let people pick out a squash.
Clouds this morning and sporadic rain. I’m following the hurricane’s progress in Florida, may everyone down there be safe.
We are leaving tomorrow for a wedding in Syracuse this weekend. I have that unprepared feeling. I need to be here to watch over my world!
We were just talking today about how we like Harvest season ???? I stumbled onto this video today. I sure wish I would have known this event was local last weekend. Darn.
I hope you can enjoy your time away, but I do understand your feelings.

Fabulous event! I love Neil Young. Thanks for sending the video!
Such a beautiful display of squash! Once again I’ve sadly let another summer pass without planting squash. I hope your splendid example will motivate me when spring returns.
I plant squash every year but I don’t always have bounty like this! Not sure why this was such a good year.
I used to love when I could grow more than I could possibly eat … giving from my garden always felt so wonderful. Don’t have a garden anymore … but am filled with lots of good memories. Love all the orange colors.
I love a good group of winter squash. It’s the perfect “cornucopia” image to me.
