Early evening
This is a beautiful wild corner of my rock garden. Big goldenrod, Autumn Joy sedum turning pink, some kind of artemisia, and milkweed.
The beautiful weather is the same every day. It lulls me into thinking the cold and dark will not come. Of course it will. It’s getting darker earlier every night.
We had the last workday of 2024 at the community garden today. The team filled the new high raised beds with logs, woodchips, seaweed muck from a winter storm, and straw. Gradually, the contents of the beds will break down and topsoil will be added. We also emptied the water barrels for the end of the season and put them away. I harvested my red onions and put them in the shed for drying. I have at least four huge Hubbard squash in the community garden plot and countless butternut. Harvest of winter squash won’t be for a while.
I feel a lurking confusion. Is it the change of seasons? Or other kinds of changes? I don’t know.
