Canning tomato sauce
I used to keep two blogs. This one was more making-related and the other one, called Cross Road Gardens, was more (obviously) garden-related. It became too much of an effort. And my life merged into one thing (or so I told myself). So I consolidated on this one.
But sometimes there are things on that abandoned blog that I need to look up. Like this post: Canning tomato sauce.
The season of canning is finally here. The tomatoes seemed late ripening this year. I made notes that in 2020 we had 13 quarts by August 25! This year we are just getting started and it’s August 27. Oh well, we are grateful for what we can get.
Canning and preserving are so rewarding. There’s nothing quite like the beautiful sight of all the filled jars lined up. It’s also a tremendous amount of work but rather fun once you get into the rhythm of it.
It is an annual tradition here to can tomato sauce. I’ve gotten used to a few weeks where tomatoes are all over the kitchen. The colors are so bright and harvesty.
Oh you will be busy! Can’t wait to see what you create with your tomatoes ????
We use the sauce all year. Mostly in pasta dishes of course!
i’m still with the Shipwreck…..i’d give anything to HAVE it….like have it transported here, to the Hill……
Maybe i’d make it an outside kitchen for canning tomatoes if i ever had enough to can?
I visited it Sunday and a retired couple was there. He was really fantasizing about having it. He went on and on about what he would do with it. I told him the town would probably give it to him for free if he would take it away. But it was not seaworthy (obviously). His partner was not enthusiastic about the fantasy. I got the impression this was a pattern between them.
