Sketch journal Sept 2023
In September, I finally figured out how to deal with the black pages – collage some color on them!
I started a practice of picking out three or four scraps of paper the night before. I committed to use them the next day. I used Nori paste. I laid each scrap on a backing sheet from junk mail and applied paste to it with my finger. The minimalism and “use-it-up” nature of this approach was very pleasing.
Mostly I did nothing else to the page that day. But for most, I came back later and added some white lines. It was a fun project to try to figure out how to enhance the collaged pieces with lines. I think this approach was the most fun I had in the sketch journal. I carried it on for quite a few days.
This one reminds me of sewing – looks like a spool of thread and a needle sticking out.
I just love this one. Note the horizon line. This would be easy to reproduce in fabric and embroidery.
Here the white is acrylic ink. I applied it with the eyedropper from the bottle. The image is eye-catching, but the shapes remind me of slugs. Or monsters.
Loving your approach with these collages .. simple which I don’t see often in collages but really like them. It sure has been fun seeing your different artistic approaches …
Thank you, Tina! It was nice to discover how simple a collage can be.
Oh those vases! So cute. And your slugs looked like my fish 🙂
Ha – a vertical rectangle can be a vase, but a horizontal rounded one can be a fish! or a slug.
how about re-imagining the last page as flying carpets?
Or a flying carpet! With a little adjustment to the fringe that would work!
