Sketch journal April 2023
We went to France in April 2023 to visit Sam’s daughter who was in pastry school there. Instead of taking my chunky book, I took some paper in a folder and some pens. I pasted sheets in when I got home,
This first one is a sketch of someone’s boots in the Boston airport. We were delayed a long time before takeoff.
I found it hard to take time to sketch while traveling. But I managed a few drawings.
A goat (“le bouc”) in the countryside near where Nicole went to school. This is a contour drawing, without looking or lifting the pen.
Lugdunum was the Roman city on the site where Lyon is now. It’s at the confluence of the Rhône and Saône rivers. We were exploring the excavation of an amphitheater there, quite extensive. I sketched the towers of the city of Lyon from that vantage point.
I love graffiti in general. This one was especially beautiful.
When I got home there were days of mindless pattern-making. Someone demonstrated this one, which results in a very curvy three-dimensional looking pattern. I don’t remember who demonstrated it. I really should have recorded more attributions.
It is great fun seeing you variety of talent, skill and creativity! The last one kinda reminds me of zentangle.
It is kind of like Zentangle. The three-dimensional effect appeals to me a lot.
the graffiti sketch had me thinking of Picasso
Picasso’s drawings are so fun to copy. He really has a way with a line. So effortless.
all these….le bouc…..just love contour drawing and i really should do something like this…..even just around town here….am curious
what that might look like….
i’ve never drawn buildings…i admire theser
Of course, the goats in the field brought thoughts of you, grace
Love them all but .. oh those shoes!!
There’s something so evocative about shoes. I like drawing them.
