i used to see chipmunks so much in NH and loved them. they always seemed so cheerful to me unlike squirrels who always appear to be chattering (scolding) you or dropping acorns on your head when you walk under the tree. the acorn harvest is so plentiful this year that they are leaving them all over the sidewalk. years ago i read that they will shake the acorns to see if they are good or a dud. I think they drop them to see how they bounce. they will also bury the dud acorns near their tree and the good ones further away.
I guess they need fluffy tails to wrap around them in the Maine winters! Yes, there are not only sunflowers to eat but food scraps in the compost and fresh veggies growing and grain the chickens missed.

We used to have red squirrels in the front garden area, but they disappeared. This year, lots of chipmunks. Interesting to observe them.
goodness, I didn’t know chipmunk tails could be so long and luxurious … must be the excellent food supply 😉

These photos are so precious…and beautiful!
It’s great to see an animal feasting on a plant.
