“patience, which brings peace to one’s fingers”
I’ve finished attaching seven houses to their backing, five to go. Although I may decide to go back and stitch on these “finished” ones here and there. I am finding this project more and more compelling. It is attracting ideas to itself without a lot of forcing, which is wonderful.
.
One thing I might do is create a patchwork frame for each one (following Jude’s frames of mind, but in blue). The one on the upper right is not set squarely – it’s at an angle. I thought I could alleviate this a bit with a frame. And that would give it more space to exist.
Another thing I want to do is name each piece. I’m thinking of using quotes from this book, one of my absolute (weird) (almost unreadable) favorites. It has so much to say about houses and “intimate spaces.” And poetry and the universe and psychology and … lots of things. The title of this post came from browsing sentences and phrases I’d underlined the last time I’d read it. I didn’t think I’d have the patience to execute all this stitching, but it’s coming to pass. Maybe because it’s relentlessly rainy.
.
Poppies in the rain. These are planted in the first plot as you come into the community garden. It’s so nice to see the bright pops of color as I walk in. It’s been rainy for days. I found squash beetles today. Otherwise, things are going okay.
.
I saw a baby porcupine crossing the driveway today. Utterly adorable. I wish I had a photo, but I don’t.
love the title quote … likewise the idea of framing your houses with log cabin strips … and lettering, which is something I do on and off … kinda like driving a car with manual transmission versus automatic, how one can tire of the effort required and walk away from it, only to realize the effort is missed … and so to return
and thanks for the book recommendation … I’ve put a hold on a library copy, which has a wonderful cover that looks like a line drawing of your cloth houses
I hope you like the book. Something about the language & oddity of his ideas really appeals to me, but not everyone’s cup of tea.
All this…All…love. I’ve never stitched words. I like the idea of writing with ink tho…might do that with the Spiral blanket when i
get back to it.
your houses…it IS as if they are waiting to SAY things, TELL things… will check out the book…
I resist stitching words, but it’s something I want to try. Don’t know if I’ll accomplish it with these pieces, we’ll see.
just looked at Amazon…reviews… and between your comments above and this review by David R Scherer “such emotionally charged
spacial types as the attic, the cellar, drawers and the like”………i think i might need it
It is a pretty special book.
