Summer
On today’s walk. A real feeling of June and solstice, with the blooming beach roses and the morning fogs.
Looking at this photo later, I can conjure up the scent of the roses and the seaweed. And the skinfeel of chilly fog with sunshine oh so ready to break through.
And yesterday morning, this one. Eating what nature gives, instead of my crops in the hoophouse for once! This little being sat there munching for a long time while I watched through the window.
Notice the “lawn” which is increasingly meadow. There hasn’t been enough dry weather to mow even if we wanted to. It’s interesting to see what grows when we leave it alone.
Today we go to Bangor to pick up Sam’s grandson, who’s spending the summer part-time with us and part-time with his aunt, Sam’s sister, who has an ice cream business that employs lucky teenagers.
we now live in our first-ever home with a fenced yard … thus our first attempts at growing veggies now that we no longer have deer wandering through … of course, nature will have her say in all things as we had 60 mph gusts during last night’s thunderstorms and our tomatoes took quite a beating
Ouch sorry about your tomatoes!
‘Beach Roses” has such a lovely sound to it.
It’s Latin name is nice too – rosa rugosa. Invasive but so pretty.
