A garden interlude
Warmer temperatures and most importantly, no cold wind. A good day to get some gardening done.
Sam put old hay from the chicken coop on top of the compost pile. Supposedly, the pile on the left was once as high as the pile on the right. Hard to believe. We’ll screen out the pile on the left, and rotate the big pile over. Later. Right now there’s still ice in the soil.
The chickens had an outing. Here, drinking rain water from a cement water bowl my sister gave us. There are three of them, only two in photo. At one point, they were all drinking together but I missed the shot.
The garden looks asleep. We’re still digging up potatoes. They store well in the soil under a thick layer of hay.
The official start of the gardening season – I planted peas and fava beans today.
It’s going to be cold and rainy later tomorrow, so this was a brief opportunity. Plus we are going to France for a week leaving Thursday. I don’t want to leave, but it’s a family trip. We’ll see how much of my high school French comes back. Au revoir!
