Wintry mix
Freezing rain. The car was coated with a layer of ice. We had to scrape the windshield before heading to town for groceries. The weather forecast calls for a “wintry mix.” I always pause over that terminology. They could just say “mix.” There’s no corresponding summery mix. I like the sound of it though, “wintry mix.”
I’ve achieved purling! It’s a small achievement, but one I really want to celebrate. Stockinette stitch! Norwegian style. Knitting has mystified me for so long. Suddenly I get it. Photo shows my garter stitch swatch (with mistakes) and my stockinette swatch. Next swatch, I’ll do some ribbing.
My little cherry blossom weaving is done. There are three strips warped on this Saffron loom and this is the middle one. One more to go before I cut these off. I want to finish them as bracelets, but not sure how I’ll do it. Always more to learn.
I stopped at my local yarn store on the way home from groceries. She was having an inventory sale. I bought some wool wash, but nothing else. Tired of consuming, for now. As I completed my purchase, we were discussing the weather, of course. I said “You have to be ready for anything.” She said “That’s just it, I don’t think I’m ready for anything.” That’s how I feel too.
love her sentiment.
knitting. i love the thought of it
It is like weaving, stitching.. a very healing concept.
“ready for anything” makes me think how I have a very annoying habit of imagining the worst … sometimes I wish I could just be in the moment and trust that all will be as it is meant to be
and I too have been baffled by knitting … your samples make it very tempting to try, try again … if only I didn’t have a long list of half-done projects
Imagining the worst is — the worst. I’m mostly inspired to learn knitting by a few friends here who knit. I surely don’t need to pick up more fiber projects!
The colors on the right knitting are so softly lovely. Me too Liz…jump to the worst, but I keep trying to get better about that.
I think I’ll use this yarn for another shawl, much smaller.
