Red oak
We hiked up Schoodic Mountain this morning. Now I’m overwhelmed with stuff to do before going to Connecticut for mom’s services.
But I don’t regret it. It was a beautiful morning to be outdoors. And I indulged my obsession with the Peak Finder app, pointing it at mountains all around me. And I want to climb every one of them. Doable?
This tiny twig of a tree put forth a gigantic leaf. It’s turning color in a beautiful way that reminds me of patchwork. Quercus rubra, I think. Northern Red Oak.
Mountains to the east – there’s one named “Catherine”. The app shows that we’re on Schoodic Mountain.
I’m glad you were able to make time to walk amidst mountains … especially with so many other things pressing in the wake of your mom’s passing …
and I must say I wish I had Peak Finder with me when we were in New Mexico … maybe next time

all my life i have loved all parts of this continent, loved them, knowing they exist, but really…never had an impulse to GO there…to
Live there……
except New Mexico. where i Went and Lived.
i see these posts and for the first time, feel a pull. I think if i had another life to go, i would move to Maine, to these places you show me
here. SO BEAUTY FULL and so Something that just touches me deeply. THANK YOU for this….for bringing me to them at least this way.
I am so lucky to be in Maine. My grandmother lived here and my partner’s family is here (mother’s side). It is an amazing time we live in when we can share in-depth what makes us love a place.
I love this app and have sent it to people who can actually use it! haha I do not have a smart phone, but an imagination for this!
Great! For a long time, I’ve wanted an app like this & I finally looked for one & found it. Very useful.
