Quarryfest
One of the special attributes of this area is a quantity of granite and a history of quarrying. The landscape is dotted with ponds from old quarry operations. Some few carry on the tradition of stone working, although not nearly on the scale that it once was.
The Quarryfest happened again this year after a pandemic hiatus. It’s at the Granite Garden Gallery, a place run by Obadiah Buell. This is the second time I’ve been there and the surroundings are so striking. I always take lots of photos, but it’s impossible to capture the magical atmosphere. There is a trail around the quarry, so interesting to walk. I want to come back in the winter! And there are granite sculptures everywhere, some finely finished and polished, others utilitarian (a ping-pong table!), and some just made from sheer exuberant piling and balancing of chunks of granite, large and small.
granite. thank you so so much for all these photographs….again..you have such a beauty Full state….
Granite seems to be so eloquent. It certainly is everywhere around here.
