Abstract Bird

I attended the Slow Handwriting workshop offered by LA Shambhala with Barbara Bash over zoom. I am a fan of Barbara Bash’s calligraphy and brushwork, not to mention her contemplative approach. But for some reason, this workshop didn’t click for me. We made a lot of asemic scribbles, and drew some free form abstractions which we then attempted to turn into letters. Also practiced the “Heaven/Earth/Human” meditation by looking out the window and writing words and phrases in the mode of each realm.

But this “bird” was the only work that really seemed worthwhile to me. Maybe I’m being too judgmental. Maybe someday one of these techniques will become a practice…
