Practical philosophy
Dr. Cornel West’s title at Harvard is Professor of the Practice of Public Philosophy. I like the name of his subject but I shortened it to Practical Philosophy. And here it’s more personal than public.
I am struggling with white supremacy, activism vs contemplation, and the place of arts and crafts in general. It’s good to struggle.
I was going to cover all the black and white checks in my base tablecloth. Then I thought I’d expose some of them following Jude’s concept of “magic.†Now I’m thinking I’ll expose some of them as an expression of the anti-racist struggle. But it’s such a mild gesture really.

The place of color? I’m somehow unable to post colorful images on Instagram. It feels disrespectful of the moment/movement we are in.
I have to say I’m really enjoying stitching down these yellow woven strips with Deb Lacativa’s dyed floss. Some of the squares will fade because they are dyed with turmeric.
I had a dream about Deb Lacativa last night. I don’t know her except from her blog. In my dream, she vigorously told some guests she had to go work on their “wgalo.†(More Whiffs, Glimmers and Left Oeuvres, name of her website.) She held up a lovely piece of stitching for admiration. She was in a wheelchair. I don’t know where I got that idea. I felt blessed and energized.
