25 million stitches panel
This panel is finished! I’m mailing it off to Sacramento today.
This is a community art installation. We are asking volunteers to hand stitch on fabric panels. We now have over 1,400 participants from 44 states and many countries overseas. However, another 1,000 panels will be needed to be stitched to add up to 25 million stitches. This huge community art project will come together into a single striking fiber arts display. When the panels are returned to us, we will assemble them in a grand installation of everyone’s personal expression of solidarity and support for the refugees. Once woven together with other lovingly contributed panels, each contribution will be a part of a tapestry of profound community supportâ —but we can’t do it without your participation!
Materials:
- Linen remnant 15″ x 35″
- Mostly hand dyed threads
- Scraps of fabric and yarn
As we approach our first installation opening date I am excited to share the updates of the 25 Million Stitches project: One Stitch, One Refugee. Seeing all 2,200 hand stitched panels come together, I am grateful to you being the first group of participants who supported and shared the project among your circle of artists and friends. This has been an incredibly time consuming yet rewarding project in every stage. Fortunately, our core volunteers in Sacramento have been working around the clock to prepare for the opening at the Verge Center for the Arts, June 12th through August 22nd 2021.
The local news KCBS Good Day aired another segment about the 25 Million Stitches: One Stitch, One Refugee. Here are two YouTube links of KCBS segments, a project update interviews and a panel discussion. We are actively searching for installation venues. Please contact me if you have a venue for us to approach.
Again, thank you for your engagement and support of the refugees.
