Coptic 9
Margo Klass said we would need to make 10 Coptic bound books to really internalize the stitch. I made number 9 last week.
This book has eight sections and eight braids. I revisited the drummed covers and they came out okay, although the front is wider than the back and and and … maybe I need to make twenty sets of drummed covers!
To make the covers, I dripped black ink onto plain drawing paper and then scraped it with a credit card. When that dried, I dripped and then scraped a layer of Golden’s high flow acrylic in Iridescent Pearl.
I wanted the covers to communicate with the interior guard sheets, which I made by cutting advertising flyers from Crimethinc Press in half. I saved these flyers because I loved the dark paper and silvery ink used on them. My son was interested in this publisher in his teen years – they publish anarchist literature. Rolling Thunder magazine was the initial attraction. Unfortunately that anarchist journal of dangerous living has now ceased publication.
