weaving journey
I bought a journey loom from Sue Merrill soon after I moved to Maine. Then it languished in the art room because I had much else to do, and I really needed some help getting started with it. My Friday fiber friends at Chapter Two offered that help this week and I’m weaving! Now I want to work through Sue’s book and complete some – or all! – of her beautifully contemplative keyforms.
I dismantled some of the fabric shown here because I wanted to pay more attention to the design … oh, and I don’t really know how to take the weaving off the loom yet! Baby steps…
- Journey loom
- Pick type comb to push down the yarn is barely visible at top right. I can get this at the drug store. Or just use the batten?
- Batten came with the loom, it’s not visible off camera. Creates a convenient shed in the left-to-right direction.
- Tapestry needle used to thread weft yarn through, especially in the right-to-left direction.
- Strong cotton cord used as warp. I don’t have any, need to find a source. (Update: Halcyonyarn.com)
- Weft is a ball of yarn left over from a crocheted hat. I love how the weaving shows off the colors.
