Two bundles
I gathered more Old Man’s Beard (lichen) and more dried sweet fern. Piled it all onto my apron and bundled it up. Just for good measure, I made another bundle from an old worn-out merino long underwear top. Into the dyepot! It’s very exciting, but I’ll have to give them some time to sit and absorb the dyestuff.
I went for a long walk today. Wanted to walk the route from the preserve to Point Road, but reverse it. I found the entrance just fine. As soon as I got into the woods, the quality of the walk changed. The woods were dripping, soggy, soft, wet, primordial. I had my muck boots on, didn’t mind slopping along. At least I didn’t mind until I encountered my own footsteps – going around in a circle! I thought I would come out towards the east, but I came out just about where I entered, on Point Road. It ended up being a much longer walk than I expected. A light rain too. Tired and kind of wretched when I got home, but felt good that I only got semi-lost and recovered. And had enough strength to walk six miles.
