in stamford
here – not wanting to be –
I miss the wood stove, like a small life
at the center of the house
I miss the woods, present around me
with their original breathing
I shopped for groceries, coffee, wine
without much settling
comfort strategies lacking power
until I opened my work computer
and immersed myself in
succession planning planning
made some progress

Ordered “Winter on Earth” thread crumbs from Jude Hill
A base of light cotton, 21″ square, deep brown, over-dyed with indigo arashi shibori. A patch of frozen ground.
And nine scraps of vintage fabric, 2-3″ square-ish, indigo-dipped to reveal the bit of life slumbering in each one.
This is the garden in January, in February—waiting—patiently.
And one green star, of course, herald of spring.
