cherry tree lane
I nibbled on my first asparagus shoot today. It was juicy and delicious. They come up out of the dirt perfectly clean. I guess they really form in the air, not underground. I took a walk in the neighborhood, adorned with flowers, shrubs, and trees. Remembering the last chimney sweep dancing down Cherry Tree Lane in the cool spring night.
Backstory: I love the end of the chimney sweep sequence in Disney’s Mary Poppins. Where the sweeps dissipate into the dark, cavorting down the curved brick lane lined with blossoming trees. I haven’t watched the movie in years, but I used to ritually watch it every spring. Mostly for that minute. I had read P.L. Travers’ books before the movie, so I was steeped in the mysterious Poppins and able to overlook some of the vulgarity of the film version.
