Apparatus for the Distillation of Vague Intuitions,
Eve Andrée Laramée
Hand-blown and etched laboratory glass, steel, copper, saltwater, flowers and tables
Her beautiful installation, Apparatus for the Distillation of Vague Intuitions, looks at first glance like a large and untidy laboratory apparatus. A closer look reveals that many of the glass beakers and other vessels are hand-blown and slightly irregular. In place of the measurements you would expect, such as liters or gallons, some of the lopsided vessels are marked with "handfuls" and "mouthfuls." Other texts provide additional clues about the unusual nature of Laramée's laboratory. They say things like "blunder," "misconception," "matter of chance" and even "boo boo." One flask with three spouts is marked "Falter," "Hesitate" and "Dither."
